Upcycling Wooden CD Crates

Remember having wooden CD crates? We had to have them to hold all of our beloved music back in the day, but now you can pick them up for a dime at a garage sale.

When you see these treasures, scoop them up! You can make the most stunning center pieces, counter top decor, beautiful holders for bubble bath and bath salts – the sky is the limit for uses.

I am so excited to share this with you, so let's dive in.

The Supplies

You don't need a lot of supplies to make this project, below is a list of supplies.

Wooden CD Crate
Jars with a neck
Rustoleum Linen White Chalked Paint
Paintbrushes
Doll Heads (there are wooden balls that are flat on one end)
Hot Glue Gun (my referral link)
Twine
Bows (optional)

Upcycling Your Wooden CD Crates

Start by painting your wooden crate. Depending on the amount of coverage you want will depend on how many coats you need. You can leave it as or you can sand it down and distress it. I opted not to sand mine down.

Also paint your doll heads in the same paint.

When your painting is complete, use your hot glue gun to attach a doll head to the bottom of your crate in each corner.

Believe it or not, that part of the project is complete.

Now it's just time to decorate our bottles. Wrap the neck of each bottle with twine, securing your ends with your hot glue gun.

Finish off your bottles by adhering bows or whatever elements works for your home over your twine on your bottles.

That's it!

So what do you think? Are you ready to make these? This project took me 45 minutes INCLUDING time for painting drying.

The crate cost me $.10 (but I see them at Goodwill all the time for $1). The two jars were $3 each. The twine came from The Dollar Store, I used less than one package. And the doll heads were $.20 each. The bows came from a leftover Christmas project. And I always have paint, brushes, and hot glue.

So all in, this project came in at $7.90! Well worth it as many times when you find just a decorative bottle like we created here they are well over $10 each.
